THE STUDIO

Here is a chance to look inside my studio, to see where I create all my accessories and to see the process that an idea undergoes to transform into a finished design.

Welcome to my Studio!

~ Inspirations ~

My designs are inspired from, but are not copies of, historical accessories. Each shape is my own original design and is constructed as a one-of-kind adornment. All my handcrafted pieces will all be unique even if the basic shape is the same. Each year I bring out a new design and I may quit a current one whenever I decide it's been out long enough. These are all be handcrafted by myself, with only a few local helpers that cut & sew the linings for me. I strongly believe in supporting other craftspeople so I purchase many pewter buttons and other of my adornments from them.

~Pockets ~

Back in medieval & renaissance times, clothing was not constructed with hidden pocket so these had to be attached to belts, draped around the waist or over the shoulder. My Pocket would replace a flat pocket that someone might have in a modern outer garment and is used for just the essentials one might need to take along (like a cell phone, car keys, cash and a hair comb). These have become very popular at festival or any special occasion where you don't want to haul a large bag.

 ~  The Process ~

When deciding on a new design I will sketch it out is different views, then create a paper pattern.  From there I will create a proto-type that I can play around with, adjustings curves & seams.

Fabrics in every color are the base of each creation.  These are the hues, medium and textures that set the palette of each little bag.

First I'll sketch an original or Celtic Knot design and hand paint it onto canvas pockets or accents areas.  Each time I paint something it always comes out a little different. I also use found objects, beadwork and bead wrapping giving each bag a unique finishing touch.

I keep bins & baskets of varies floral ingredients around for garlands, baskets & Flower Crowns and as needed I will craft a lovely new creation or complete a special order request. Using flowers to adorn oneself is fundamental to the basic human expression of a festive adornment!
